The need to boost scientific research in Indonesian society

Recently, technologies and technological products have largely and deeply influenced our daily life in many aspects. A new technology generally grows out of a breakthrough in scientific research. Therefore, facilitating basic science research will pave the way for future technology development. However, the promotion of research activity requires a good research infrastructure and environment as well as research funding which are badly needed in the developing countries. Furthermore, research achievement based on international ranking such as the world class ranking and the number of publications should be adopted as official targets of national research policy and funding priorities. In this presentation, a discussion will be given on the strategies for supporting scientists in their persistent research activities. The contributions of scientific research to the quality improvement of science education and to the strengthening of technological and industrial resilience of the country will also be presented.
