Gusti Muhammad Hatta was graduated as a bachelor with the engineering degree (Ir) from the Faculty of Forestry of Lambung Mangkurat University. In 1987, he obtained his Magister Science (MSi) in Forestry Science, University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogjakarta In 1999, he was graduated from the University of Wageningen – the Netherlands, as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Silviculture. In November 2009, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Gusti Muhammad Hatta, MSi was appointed by the President of Republic Indonesia to become the Indonesian Minister for Environment.  In October 2011, he was assigned as the Indonesian Minister for Research and Technology (RISTEK) until now.  Within almost one and half year of his leadership in RISTEK (October 2011 – March 2013), he already has showed a great efforts in improving science, technology and innovation (STI) environment in Indonesia. Moreover, he also has been actively participating in International scientific events, as well as hosting several International programs in Indonesia.  Indeed, as he experienced working with the foreign partners; he also supports the International cooperation, which is aimed to benefit the global society based on common interests and equalities, as well as to maintain the world sustainable development.
