Jajang Jahroni is a senior researcher at the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM) of Jakarta’s State Islamic University (UIN). He is also a member of Faculty of Islamic Literature and Humanity. He did his Ph.D at Boston University, Boston United States. His major concerns are on Islamic authority, Islamic educational institutions, Islamic organizations and their relations with Middle East. He has conducted several projects on madrasa and pesantren in Indonesia. His dissertation focuses on the reproduction of knowledge among Indonesian Salafi groups and their responses to the social and political developments in Indonesia. He is currently working on Islamic public rituals and their relations with the development of public spheres in Indonesia. This multi-year project is funded by the Indonesian research funding.
