Bas Heijman is an associate professor in drinking water engineering at the department of Water management of the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. He is a lecturer in a number of courses concerning drinking water technology. The main course is “design of drinking water and waste water treatment plants”. A course in the last year of the masters of sanitary engineering students.  His research is about introduction of new technologies in (drinking)water treatment. Examples are: the use of ceramic membranes and zeolites in water treatment. He was involved in a number of projects concerning small scale treatment of brackish or seawater with the use of  sustainable energy. These projects were aiming at affordable desalination technologies for remote rural areas
