Idrus Paturusi, born in 1950, has been serving as Rector of Hasanuddin University since 2006. He is also a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Faculty of Medicine Hasanuddin University since 2004 and has been leading the Department since 2002-present.

Idrus Paturusi completed his Medical Doctor at Hasanuddin University in 1977. He obtained his General Surgery degree at the same University in 1979 and his Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Indonesia in 1984. He undertook Postgraduate Orthopaedic training at Service de Chirurgie Orthopaedique under Prof. A. Patel’s supervision in Paris, France in 1986-1987. He completed his Doctorate in medical science at Hasanuddin University in 1999.

Professor Paturusi is well known from his social work in crisis and emergencies at both national and regional levels and has received several certificates of appreciation. Among them are the appreciation from UNHCR, Iran Government and Indonesian Government as a Coordinator for Medical Team for Bam earthquake victims in Iran; Satya Lencana Kebangkitan Sosial  appreciation from President of Republic of Indonesia; Certificate of Adi Setya Utama from Indonesian Medical Doctors Association; as Team of Crisis Centre from Ministry of Health, Republic of Indonesia and from Afghanistan Society for being an Indonesia Medical Team member in Afghanistan.

Professor Paturusi has held a number of positions including a former Dean for Faculty of Medicine Hasanuddin University in 2002-2006, former Vice Dean for Students’ Affair in 1994-2002, a former President of the Indonesian Orthopaedic Surgery Association in 2000-2002 and Director of Regional Office for Disaster Quick Response Team since 2003 until present.

He is currently serving as President for Association of Southeast Asia and Pacific of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) 2013-2016.
