Ahmad Najib Burhani

Ahmad Najib Burhani is a senior researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Jakarta and a member of Indonesian Young Scientists of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI). He received his PhD in Religious Studies from the University of California-Santa Barbara, USA with a thesis entitled When Muslims are Not Muslims: The Ahmadiyya Community and the Discourse on Heresy in Indonesia (2013). His academic interests include religious minorities, Islamic movements in Southeast Asia, suffering and martyrdom in religious tradition, and urban Sufism. He won the Professor Charles Wendell Memorial Award from UCSB in 2013 for the academic achievement in the field of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.
